Rules of Participation and Disciplinary Measures

As the subject line suggests, this message concerns Rules of Participation and Disciplinary Measures, and seeks the attention of all mo'mineen that participate or wish to participate at events organized at Al-Mawaddat Centre.

  • Primarily to preserve the sanctity of the Imam bargah, also used as a place of submission of one-self to his/her Lord
  • To ensure safety of the participants that include men, women, children and students who have travelled a far in pursuit of education
  • To be aware of every individuals background who attend at the Centre
  • To organise and run the majalis and programmes seamlessly with discipline
  • To instill discipline among the participants to respect the rules, regulations and measures that have been put in place

Ameerul Mo'mineen Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib ('a) once clearly introduced a responsibility of discipline upon his followers, saying:

"Oh people, take charge of the disciplining of your selves, and redress them from the wildness of their habits."
[Nahj al-Balaghah, saying 359]

Rules of Participation and Thanking the Disciplined

The message of discipline at Al-Mawaddat Centre is not new. Rules and Regulations of participations at the Imam bargah have been clearly presented to all through various means including the participant registrations forms, announcements in the beginning of every Islamic year, and in every email announcement concerning events for the week.

Such rules and regulations have indeed brought about much improvement in the discipline over the last couple of years. Al-Mawaddat Centre, KL wishes to thank all those who have respected the rules and regulations of participations and ensured discipline. This helped the management in running the events.

The Undisciplined and Problems Created

However, unfortunately, there are still some who have difficulty in understanding and following the clear rules and regulations of participation. This causes several problems for the management who have to deal with the following problems on a weekly basis:

  • There is shortage of Niyaz of Imam Husayn ('a) because several people come without informing their participation. As as result, several people do not benefit from the Niyaz (especially volunteers), not to forget the accusations that people inflict upon the Centre that not enough food is being served. It has been explained several times that the Centre only prepares Niyaz enough for the numbers who confirm their participation. This is in order to refrain from the Asraf.
  • Unregistered participants turn up whom the management is not aware of. This is a serious issue as the management does not know who they are, what is their purpose or where they are from. It has been explained several times that those who inform others about the events organized at the Centre, should also inform them to register themselves before attending.

Disciplinary Measures - EFFECTIVE 15 AUGUST 2013

The management has tolerated this for quite some time and it has become increasingly difficult for the management to address such problems every single event. Hence, to ensure that the objectives above are met, and the problems above are avoided, the management has no option but to introduce the following disciplinary measures that will be enforced at every event. All participants are advised to read this carefully and take notice of these measures. These measures will be enforced at the entrance of the Imam bargah. Henceforth, those who disrespect these rules and regulations will be subject to NO ADMISSION into the Imam bargah.

  1. All participants who wish to attend the events at the Centre MUST register themselves by filling out the Participant Registration Form downloadable from the website and submit it to the management together with the requisite documents. Approved participants will receive a Participant Card. Only registered participants can attend events. Participants must also subscribe to the Mailing List on website in order to receive email announcements. Students from the Khoja community background are requested to register themselves as students at the website. This is a separate database for students.
  2. All participants who wish to attend an event MUST reply to the email announcement at least 3 days prior to the event. Last minute confirmation will not be tolerated any more. Those who do not confirm their attendance but turn up at the Imam bargah will NOT BE ADMITTED inside. It is hence encouraged that those who are coming together in one car are to ensure that all have confirmed their attendance before departing.
  3. All those who confirm their participation but do not turn up without a valid reason will be deregistered as Participant if such offense is committed thrice.
  4. Those who wish to bring guests (of the same faith only), MUST inform in their reply giving their guests names. (That is, not just mentioning, "we are coming with guests".)
  5. Those who receive enquiry about the presence of a Centre, MUST direct them to the website for registration if they are residing in Malaysia. If they are guests, please direct them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

We hope you understand the reasons why these measures are taken. We thank you all for your understanding and cooperation and we seek your assistance in ensuring discipline at the Centre. Please help the management to preserve the sanctity and maintain the safety of the Imam bargah, and of yourselves. Remember, if we can discipline ourselves in non-religious activities such as schools, work places, meetings, functions, sports events, we should not take religious activities and functions for granted.

With salaams and duas,

Chief Coordinator

At 172 Jalan Pahang, Setapak, the facility is a privately rented premise to house religious gatherings for the KSI communities.

Acquired in July 2009 with overwhelming financial and moral support from individual well-wishers from East Africa, the building was secured and renovated for the coming Ramadhan. Five students (Brothers Aliasger Kalyan, Miqdaad Ramani, Mohamedhusein Molu, Shahidali Allidina and Taha Molu) who were on semester break volunteered to expend their time and effort towards the renovations. Travelling daily to and fro from their homes in Nilai and under the supervision of the Advisory, Alhaj Husseinbhai Kassam, the students cleaned up the centre, painted the interior walls and set up all the cabling for the sound and media facilities.

The centre was softly opened on 16th Ramadhan 1430 (5th September 2009) to give way for the first Iftar gathering and celebrate the Wiladat of Imam Hassan (A.S). Two weeks later, on the Eid-ul-Fitr, the Centre was officially opened by Alhaj Husseinbhai Kassam, the Convenor of Al-Mawaddat Centre Kuala Lumpur and Advisor to the Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Students at Malaysia.

The building facility comprises of two floors. The Ground Floor houses the gents hall, gents washroom and a specially constructed wudhoo facility. The ladies hall, kids room, ladies washroom, kitchen and store rooms are located at the First Floor.

This achievement marks an important milestone for the future of KSI community in Malaysia. With a fully fledged gathering facility, community members can now gather conveniently and organise religious gatherings.

Al Mawaddat Centre was founded as a patronage to the Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Students pursuing their Tertiary Education in Malaysia, coordinating the affairs of all students.

The primary purpose of establishing Al-Mawaddat Centre was to provide a base whereby students and/or visitors may interact, keep in contact, seek and provide guidance and assistance from each other, organise gatherings, thereby sustaining one of the most important concept in Islam taught by our prophets and fourteen Infallibles – UNITY

The name 'Al Mawaddat' was inspired from an ayat of the Noble Quran where Allah (S.W.T) tells the Holy Prophet

 ۗ قُل لَّا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِلَّا الْمَوَدَّةَ فِي الْقُرْبَىٰ

Where Allah (S.W.T) instructs the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) to tell his people, "Say: No reward do I ask of you for this
except the love of those near of kin". (Surah Ash-Shura, Ayah 23).

Our objectives at Al-Mawaddat Centre are as follows:

  • Organise and/or gather for Religious and Social events.
