Students Celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr 1430 in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur. 21 September 2009

Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, La ilaha ilallahu wallahu akbar, Allahu akbar wa lillahil hamd… In nine years since Khoja community students have been coming to pursue tertiary education in Malaysia, it was the first time Takbir-e-Eid was heard. Thanks to the opening of the Al Mawaddat Centre in Kuala Lumpur, it was also the first time ever an Eid Namaaz was congregated by the Khoja community in Malaysia. All this while, students would only gather for the Eid luncheon.

With no sighting of Hilal (Crescent) in this region in the evening on Saturday, 19th September 2009, Monday, 21st September 2009 marked the first day of Shawaal, an important date in the Islamic calendar whereby muslims all over the world mark the end of the Holy month of Ramadhan and celebrate Eid ul Fitr.

In conjunction with the Eid ul Fitr programme, organised by the Khoja Shia Ithna-asheri Students at Malaysia (KSISAM), an important milestone was achieved with the official opening of a new convention centre to facilitate religious gatherings for the Khoja community - The Al-Mawaddat Centre.

The programme commenced at 10.15am with Takbir-E-Eid led by Br Mohamedabbas Mukhtar followed by Eid Namaaz and Khutbah which was conducted by KSISAM’s Chief Coordinator, Br Mohamed Kumail Kassam. With the blessing of the Almighty, this was the first time in history that our Khoja Shia Ithna-asheri students from different countries around the globe got the opportunity to participate in congregating the Eid Namaaz here in Malaysia. Immediately after the khutba, Br Syed Zuhair Rizvi recited Dua-e-Nudbah as the students followed the English translation on a Powerpoint presentation. The ladies received live audio and video transmission of the programme at the ladies hall.

With religious rituals for the Eid over, master of ceremony, Br Shahidali Allidina took over the podium and welcomed the students to the function. Reciting the first five verses of the Surah Yaseen, Br. Sarfarazali Chagani invited the blessings of the Almighty to the programme. Following this, KSISAM Chief Coordinator, Br. Mohamed Kumail Kassam then addressed the students with an informative speech beginning with the history of KSISAM and what this humble establishment has managed to accomplish to date.

The Advisory, Alhaj Husseinbhai Kassam was then invited to officially open Al Mawaddat Centre by signing a wall-frame memoir, which was followed by a motivating and eye-opening speech. During his speech, Alhaj Husseinbhai also thanked all the well-wishers and benefactors for their undying moral and financial support towards making Al-Mawaddat Centre a dream come true. Alhaj Husseinbhai, as a Convenor of Al Mawaddat, also took this opportunity to commend five students (Brothers Aliasger Kalyan, Miqdaad Ramani, Mohamedhusein Molu, Shahidali Allidina, and Taha Molu) by presenting to them certificates of appreciation for their volunteer services rendered towards the renovation of the centre which included painting, cable laying, sound and media facilities set up and overall clean up.

A student coordination meeting was then held whereby key issues, suggestions and recommendations were put forward, discussed and agreed by the students. With the time of Zohrain having approached, students prepared themselves for prayers which were led by Br Mohamedabbas Mukhtar. Not forgetting our Aimae Masumin (A.S) Ziaarat-e-Ashoora was then recited by Br Syed Rizwan Hamdani. Eid Niyaz was then served.

It was a truly an exceptional gathering that set an important foundation for the future of successful coordination, leadership and commitment in serving our community by the students, the future leaders of our community.
