Eid-ul-Fitr 1434 Celebrations in Kuala Lumpur

Salaam Eid-ul-Fitr al-Mubarak. Alhamdulillah, with the conclusion of the Holy Month of Ramadhan, the community in Kuala Lumpur gathered to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr at Al-Mawaddat Centre on Friday, 9th August 2013. Almost 100 people including ladies and gents participated in the Eid programme.

Like each year, the programme began with the recitation of Dua-e-Nudba recited by Br. Kumail Haider followed by the Eid Takbir conducted by Syed Aqeel Raza. The congregation then lined up for Salaat-ul-Eid that was led by Br. Mahmoud Sheriff followed by the Eid Khutbah.

The popular Islamic Quiz programme was organized once again. The quiz allowed everyone to be involved, learn and entertain themselves at the same time it increased bonding between the community members. A separate quiz programme for ladies and children section ran simultaneously. Br. Mohammed Hassan Botaj conducted the quiz in the gents’ section while Zakira Sayyida Fatima Rizvi (Bibiji) conducted the quiz in the ladies’ and children section. It was an overwhelming Eid for the Somji’s as father, mother and daughter coincidently all won in their respective quiz programmes. Br. Mohamedali Somji in the gents quiz programme, Sr. Zamena Somji in the ladies quiz programme, and little Zahra Somji in the children’s quiz programme.

Al-Mawaddat Centre, KL was privileged this year to have Br. Kumail Manji, the Assistant Secretary of the Africa Federation, and his family celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr together with the community in Kuala Lumpur. He said, “There was a strong feeling of a home away from home for students and brothers in KL, and the sense of brotherhood that everybody around felt. I received a warm welcome by Husseinbhai, and the Eid Namaaz and khutba were delivered very well followed by an Islamic quiz in which the entire congregation of around 50 gents participated. Indeed a memory that my family and I will take together with us, and remember very fondly for many years. May Allah bless Husseinbhai and his family for their personal services for this cause, and to all the other members of the Centre, for keeping alight the torch of "Mawaddat" in Malaysia.”

After Zohrain Salaat, everyone was served with niyaz. To conclude the event, a surprise was waiting for all. First time ever done, envelopes containing Eidi (Eid Monetary Gift) were pasted on the Centre’s large windows. Each envelope had names of participants written on them. It was entertaining to see them search and pull out envelopes with their names on it, bringing a smile on their faces.

It was indeed a feeling of being home away from home, just as Br. Kumail Manji said.
