KSISAM member crowned Talk Queen

Taylors Talk queenThe crowd cheered when Kaniz-e-Sakina Ladha from Africa was announced as the champion at Taylor's University College (TUC) elocution contest. Held recently for the first time at the university college's Subang Jaya campus in Selangor, the competition was part of TUC's effort to promote the English language to student in a fun way.

Students from various programmes pitted their wits and public speaking skills against each (other) at the competition. The preliminary rounds saw 32 student debating on the topic "Globalisation". Nine speakers were selected for the finals, which saw them sharing their thoughts on the topic "Freedom".

Kaniz, a first-year Bachelor of Arts Accounting and Finance student won the hearts of the judges and audience with her interpretation of the topic. "I encourage students to take part in such competitions as it helps them to build up self-confidence," said the elated winner. Chief Judge, Vijaya Samarawickrama, offered the students some pointers in his summary. "It is important to establish eye-contact witht the audience. You must also speak with passion and conviction so that your listeners know that you understand and believe in what you are talking about", he advised.
